Pastor Craig Schweitzer

Senior Pastor

Pastor Craig sees himself as a pretty easy going person who seeks to daily discover anew how God is present in his life and in the world in which he lives and serves.

Pastor Craig has served on the staff of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND since July 2002. He was first called to serve as Music & Worship Minister, in 2010 was called to serve as Pastor of Worship and Youth Education, and in January 2014 was called to serve as Senior Pastor.

Pastor Craig sees his role as Senior Pastor of Good Shepherd being one of encouragement. In all that he says and does, he encourages the congregation to remain focused on the mission and ministry God is calling them to live out in the world. The Apostle Paul’s words to the church in Rome help keep him grounded in this work – “Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7)

Pastor Craig’s professional background is a diverse collection of musical, educational, and business experiences that range from live concert production and promotion to recording studios, and live performance to music education. Prior to joining Good Shepherd, Pastor Craig was an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Bismarck State College and owned and operated a successful teaching studio called 6×6 Guitar Studio.

Beyond Pastor Craig’s role as Good Shepherd’s Senior Pastor, he serves in various leadership capacities for the Western North Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is a member of the Governing Board of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, the Disciplinary Board of the North Dakota Supreme Court, the Housing Board of Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota and continues to remain active as a musician in a variety of performance settings that range from small local jazz groups to the national triennial ELCA Churchwide Assembly.

Pastor Craig is a graduate of the University of Mary in Bismarck with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and a Master of Science in Strategic Leadership. He also holds a certificate degree in Theological Education for Emerging Ministries (TEEM) from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA. Pastor Craig was ordained to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in September 2010.

Outside of his life as a pastor, Pastor Craig enjoys reading, all music, a little golf, and quiet. And, of course, spending time with his wife Wendy and their twin daughters Ilia and Taegan is a source of endless joy.
