Genesis Church School (Age 3 - Grade 6)
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs." Matthew 19:4
Throughout the year, Good Shepherd offers three different sessions of church school. All sessions are bible-story based with scripture, service projects, joyful song, inspirational stories, video clips, crafts, activities, skits, science projects, artistry, and many other fun and unique ways to learn about God and his love for his children.
Much of the year is quite busy as Good Shepherd’s Genesis Church School is very involved in a variety of service projects such as the God’s Child Project, Backpack for Kids, Operation Christmas Child and more! Additionally, there are two First Communion classes and a third grade bible workshop with presentations during the year. Further, Good Shepherd day camp is held, at the beginning of summer, with Camp of the Cross counselors. And, the fun continues with vacation bible school in early August.
Good Shepherd’s sixth grade God Rocks program is a wonderful transition year from regular church school to confirmation. The Little Angels program, which is a modified church school program for two, three and four year olds who would like their parents to take part in the program with them, meets in the fall and spring. And, in addition to the variety of children’s programs Good Shepherd offers, we encourage our church school children to be involved in regular worship services through attendance, reading scripture, helping with offering, communion, music and other activities.

CHURCH SCHOOL ORIENTATION AND REGISTRATION For those parents who have not yet registered their children for church school and/or would like to have more detailed information about the church school program, please join us on Wednesday, September 8th at 5:30 p.m. in the South Campus Sanctuary. Adele Geiger (Children & Family Education Minister) will speak on behalf of the program and answer any questions you may have. There will also be tables set up in the Narthex for you to get help assigning your child to a classroom and to allow for you to sign up to help lead a lesson in the classroom a few times during the year. There will be one orientation this year to bring all three church school sessions together as a cohesive unit. Further, Good Shepherd's new Education Ministries Assistant, Nicole Fehr, will be announced to the entire congregation of parents. Nicole will teach large group at the North Campus and do a great deal of administrative work for the ministry.
CHURCH SCHOOL CONTACTS Good Shepherd is in need of one contact person for each classroom. If you are able to help in this way, please sign up at the church school orientation or contact Adele Geiger.
CLASSROOM LEADERS NEEDED If you are interested in being a full-time leader, please contact Adele Geiger at 255-1001 or Adele@GoodShepherdBismarck. It has also been highly successful for a few parents to team-teach too. If several rooms have full-time leaders, other parents will still need to be available to fill-in when necessary. All other rooms will have sign up sheets for parents to take turns leading. This has truly been a wonderful experience for parents and their children.
BACKPACK BLESSING On the weekend of September 11th & 12th during each service there will be a “Backpack Blessing.” Children can bring their backpacks to any service that particular weekend for a blessing of their backpacks. The pastors will indicate a time for the children to come up and talk about the blessing and offer a prayer!
NO CHURCH SCHOOL Wednesday, October 20th and Sunday, October 24th (BPS – Teacher’s Convention - long weekend)
