Ministry Title: Facility Maintenance Supervisor Reports To: Parish Administrator
Ministry Description: The Facility Maintenance Supervisor maintains the facility at high standards by providing and/or supervising overall maintenance services to the building, property, and equipment; set up and take down of rooms for church activities; maintaining supplies and building security as needed.
Communicate and supervise cleaning activities to the custodian. Responsible for custodian monthly schedule. Ability to build relationships within the congregation to aid in the facility maintenance ministry and coordinate successful volunteer projects.
Provide the care and maintenance of building and grounds, including heating and cooling systems, plumbing, and fire and security systems. Contact and perform/supervise interior and exterior maintenance as needed for snow removal, building maintenance, etc. Repair and/or coordinate services for items needing repairs. Communicate future needs, concerns, and issues with Parish Administrator. Maintains a safe and effective work environment. Ability to track facility service requests.
Responsible for ensuring cleaning tasks are executed daily, weekly and monthly. Ensure needed supplies are stored and maintained as required and obtain needed replacements in a timely manner. Train staff on safety precautions when using chemicals.
Ensure smooth execution of events for church activities and non-member guests of Good Shepherd, including set-up and take-down of various areas in the facility as needed for worship services, church school and youth activities, social events, weddings, funerals, meetings, and other events.
Responsible for understanding building security systems and for performing and coordinating openings and closings of the building. Responds to after hours emergencies.
Meetings & Administration:
Review the facility budget to ensure fiduciary responsibility. Attend staff meetings, team meetings, continuing education sessions and other meetings as needed for effective learning, communication, and coordination. Write program summaries, progress reports, letters, e-mails, and articles for the newsletters and bulletins.
Personal & Spiritual Growth:
Engage in the ministry of self–care through personal and spiritual growth. Nurture spiritual growth through prayer, worship services, reading, attending educational conferences, and other avenues personally chosen to foster this growth.
Education and Experience Desired
A High School diploma, or equivalent, is required, with at least five years of experience in maintaining a large facility, including HVAC systems, boilers, cooling towers and heat pumps, as well as knowledge of security systems, elevator equipment, and proper use and storage of cleaning supplies. Techniques on keeping organized and being able to prioritize are a must. Must be able to work well with others and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Outlook and Microsoft office experience required.

Examples of Working Conditions
The Facility Maintenance Supervisor is a full-time staff member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Benefits include a competitive salary, holiday, vacation and sick time, continuing education time and funds, 403b retirement account with Thrivent Financial, health insurance is offered through Portico Benefit Services – A Ministry of the ELCA. Work schedule can vary based on time of year and activities at the church. Typical schedule is 7 am to 4 pm Mon-Fri with 1-hour lunch (40 hours), plus occasional evenings for an event set up or take down and every other weekend work to ensure the building is open and clean for worship services. Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday are working days for this position. This schedule may change depending on the needs of the facility and its members.
