Ministry Title: Director of Facility Maintenance

Reports To:  Parish Administrator      


Ministry Description: The Director of Facility Maintenance maintains the facility at high standards by providing and/or supervising overall maintenance services to the building, property, and equipment; set up and take down of rooms for church activities; maintaining supplies and building security as needed.


Primary Responsibilities

Facility Cleaning:   Provide the care and maintenance of building and grounds, including HVAC, fire and security systems. Contract for and perform/ supervise interior and exterior maintenance as needed for cleaning, grounds maintenance, snow removal, etc. Ensure needed supplies are stored and maintained as required and obtain needed replacements in a timely manner.


Facility Use:  Ensure smooth execution of events for church activities and non-member guests of Good Shepherd, including set-up and take-down of various areas in the facility as needed for worship services, church school and youth activities, social events, weddings, funerals, meetings, and other events. Repair and/or coordinate services for items needing repairs.


Facility Security:   Responsible for understanding building security systems and for performing and coordinating openings and closings of building.


Meetings & Administration:  Review the facility budget to ensure fiduciary responsibility. Attend staff meetings, team meetings, continuing education sessions and other meetings as needed for effective learning, communication and coordination. Write program summaries, progress reports, letters, e-mails, and articles for the newsletters and bulletins.


Personal & Spiritual Growth:  Engage in the ministry of self–care through personal and spiritual growth. Nurture spiritual growth through prayer, worship services, reading, attending educational conferences, and other avenues personally chosen to foster this growth.        


Education and Experience Desired

A High School diploma, or equivalent, is required, with at least five years of experience in maintaining a large facility, including HVAC systems, boilers, cooling towers and heat pumps, as well as knowledge of security systems, elevator equipment, and proper use and storage of cleaning supplies.

Skills in self-motivation, teamwork, and ability to determine priority needs and supervise others. Physical ability for maintaining facilities and moving—without assistance—tables, chairs, equipment, stage sections and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds.


Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises the Custodian and oversees volunteers in Facility Maintenance Ministry.


Examples of Working Conditions

A full-time position (40+ hours per week) with benefits as outlined in the employee manual. Work schedule can vary based on time of year and activities at the church. Typical schedule is 7 am to 3 pm Mon-Fri with 1 hour lunch (35 hours), plus routine evening and weekend work (5 hours).
