Community Involvement

Community Involvement

There are many opportunities available for you to use your talents in a welcoming and exciting environment. Several community outreach programs are open to those who would like to participate, lend a hand and make a difference, including The Banquet at Trinity, Meals on Wheels, the Food Pantry, and Angel Tree. Many of these are open to you, your friends and your family.

There are always new projects and opportunities to help that come up throughout the year, too, so please come back and visit this page again to find out ways to use your gifts.

The Banquet

The Banquet is a Ministry for the Bismarck-Mandan community. The mission of the Banquet is to serve a free meal. It happens every Tuesday evening, Thursday evening, and Saturday at noon at Trinity Lutheran Church. Good Shepherd members take on the responsibility of preparing and serving a meal four times a year. Partners can choose to donate baked items, money, help with cooking and service, or the entertainment.

Meals On Wheels

Good Shepherd members deliver meals for the month of July. This service provides hot meals during the noon hour to elderly and handicapped persons living alone who are unable to manage food preparation. Meals for special diets can be prepared. There are other opportunities to get involved throughout the year.

Food Pantry

On the first and third weekend of each month, non-perishable food items are collected to be donated to the Bismarck Emergency Food Pantry and Community Action.

Angel Tree

An Angel Tree is set up in the Narthex each year at Christmas. It is decorated with angels that suggest a gift for an unnamed recipient from various community organizations. GSLC members buy and wrap the gifts. Each year, there are approximately 350 Angel Gifts.
