Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is located at the corner of Washington Street and Divide Avenue in Bismarck, ND.
"Without a vision, the people perish." So goes a proverb from Scripture. Another, not from Scripture, is similar: "Without a vision, people will go to another parish." Either proverb recognizes a vision is what averts loss, decline, disinterest, and stagnation.
This faith community has not lacked for vision. Fifty years ago, 168 persons chartered themselves a vision of what Good Shepherd Lutheran Church could be. By the guidance of Pastor Robert Lynne, the vision embraced Bible study and generosity to others. By the leading of the Spirit, the vision called for ever-expanding facilities to accommodate growth. And by the gifts of competent staff and committed members, the vision continues to draw us forth into the future.
People have a desperate need to know the Shepherd’s love. They are from our community and have never heard God’s word say, "You are my beloved." Our calling seems to be to help people connect with the shepherding God; to help them become involved with our loving God in dialogue, worship, service, and fun. We are filled with enormous hope and expectation about the vision, which God had placed before us.
